360 with old CRT????

I wouldn't buy a 360 if you're just using standard definition TV, especially over composite. Stick with PS2 or Xbox imo. Kinda defeats the point, like buying a X1900XTX Crossfire and using a EGA monitor.

The whole point in buying a 360 is for the games not the graphics, which btw look much better than any console currently out even on a sd crt.

I am currently playing my xbox 360 on a projector and it looks cool. I think projectors are the way to go!

True there is gameplay aspect. But you're buying a console with HD capability, it seems a shame not fully utilizing it. Same thing for PC games, you can play Oblivion, Prey, San Andreas on 640x480 lowest detail, but you don't get the same atmosphere.

I think there's a danger atm of getting too hung up on graphics over gameplay.

I mean Oblivion is still Oblivion whether it's on a HD set or not. It still plays the same, has the same story and invokes the same emotions.

Ok if it looks nice you can sit back and say 'oh boy, it looks nice' but 100 hours in you're not really thinking about that, you're thinking about the story, the characters, your investment in the narrative and what's to come.

HD imo is a niceity; it's not a necessary.

The gameplay aspect? The whole point in buying a console is for gameplay not graphics, the graphics look great regardless of wether or not it's on a hdtv.

There still is that factor for graphics, wether you like it or not. We'd all still have NES and Master systems if it's just gameplay we're after. It's not all about graphics, but cutting edge graphics will help sell a console, and it can actually aid gameplay if the graphics are used properly with the game mechanics.

I am using a Dell 20" monitor, and prefer that to my 28" widescreen CRT TV.

But I have a friend that regularly uses normal TV's. THe 360 DOES look better in HD, but I certainly wouldnt be thinking "I wont be getting one cause I dont have a HD TV at the moment".

We use ours on a 28" crt widescreen tv and it looks awful, i was really dissapointed tbh. Maybe its because im used to the nice sharp lines of my CRT monitor but it really did look poor. Im thinking of getting a 28" or 32" LCD HD tv.

Are you using composite or RGB?
