Hey

I just tried connecting the 360 up to the internet and it fails at getting an I.P address.

I used to have a PS3 running on the ethernet cable I'm now using for the 360, would that cause any problems? If so, anyone know how i can fix it?

If it's not getting an IP address that's a router problem...

Who is your broadband with? Are you using their router? You tried re-setting it?

And no, it won't be a problem with the ethernet cable, unless it's some really esoteric issue like you were using a crossover with the PS3, but the PS3 compensates for it and the 360 doesn't.

I'm on TalkTalk and using there EchoLife HG520b router, I tried my other Buffalo router and it does the same thing, My PS3 can connect with it but the 360 doesn't on both routers :|

my router blew the ethernet port on my 360 about six months ago.

the router had dropped connection (think the snr was set too low), and when the router had come back on line, the 360's ethernet port was blown.

hopefully thats not what has happened with yours, but i dont think the ethernet ports are that resilient

Found out the problem, apparently theres 2 types of ethernet connection.

The PS3 supports both but the 360 only supports one, and my cable just happens to be the one that doesn't work in the 360, so i need to change the wiring in cable i think, cause If i use the cable from my PC on my 360 it works

Damn, I'm good. My esoteric crossover auto mdi-x switching guess was correct.
