Just popped PES5 in to the 360 for the first time, and was surprised at the quality of the graphics. Were they this bad on the original machine, have I just got used to HD already?

I wondered if the emulation isn't so clever. Everything just seems fuzzy and jaggy.

I'll try HALO2 later and see what that's like.

Sounds about right.

Afaik the games aren't using emulation per se, especially as emulating an x86 CPU is very, very complex (read: slow). They're being recompiled for the new architecture and presumably fixing any bugs.

640x480 without AA, vs. 1280x780 with 2-4x AA results in quite a jump in image quality :)

I tried Halo2 and was godsmacked at how awful it looked!

I run my 360 on my 32"crt daewoo TV via advanced scart and I find the PQ is very very good. Loads better than the original xbox. Infact I can say I wont be in any rush now to get a HD TV because of the PQ in general on my crt is excellent even playing a DVD movie its better than my DVD player.

I think you've gotten used to HD already, as I've played PES5 on both Xbox and the 360 and there's no obvious difference in quality between the 2 versions (baring in mind I'm using a bog standard TV, not a HD one).

I was playing Halo 2 earlier on my 360 and it looked better than it did running on the first Xbox.

However i am having problems getting Forza MotorSport running right, its really laggy and the picture has lines running though it.

Hmm when I said recently that MS were wrong to change from x86 because it makes emulation hard, I was told I was wrong and that it was mainly due to the graphics being ATI instead of nvidia.

Also FWIW I believe a number of xbox1 games do use AA.

Hah, I remember that. Well done for sticking to your guns :).
