Hi there, a friend of mine recently bought a new 22" monitor so he could finally play his 360 in HD goodness, and he also bought an optical cable to connect his 360 to his Z-5500.

He's got the 360 running on HD etc no problem.

But he's got the optical cable connected to the Z-5500, the 360 is set up correctly, he says it's on dolby digital, but the Z-5500 says there is "No Digital Data"

He's assured me that both connections are plugged in properly and clicked, so I wondered if anyone else had similar problems or ideas on what could be wrong?

Cheers.

Hmm.. check the optical cable, unplug it from the Z5500, if he can see red light eminating from it, the 360/lead are OK..
If there is no red light, I guess it's the optical lead, the socket on the 360's lead or the 360?

I managed to break one of my Sockets on the 360's HD Component leads Optical Socket... that was just me being hamfisted and pulling the leads from the rat's nest the is behind my TV..

Does the 360 transmit the signal if it doesn't detect a connection on the other end then, I wouldn't of expected it to, but I'm not too clued up on the ins and outs of optical.

I'll tell him to check that now then, cheers :)

He says it's set to DDL 5.1

He unplugged it from the Z5500, but no red light, surely if optical transmits irrelevant of a connection on the other end, he should see light, or at least a tiny amount even if it was severed at some point, or am I wrong?

Yes he should see a light.

Get him to double check the 360 connection as mine frequently comes loose by just breathing in the same room :p

Does the 360 need to be setup as anything else other than HD on the component cable and 5.1 DDL in the dashboard to transmit via optical?

that would rule out any blunders by himself :p

I told him to reconnect it at both ends and he said they both clicked.

nope thats the 360 end sorted.

Failing that check the cable by shining a light down it manually :>

Would it transmit a signal even if it wasn't set up properly? as some hardware does.

I'll get him to check the cable with a light, good idea

Edit: he's checked the cable, and the light is strong as could be, so I assume that should rule out any problems with the cable?

Edit: Well he pushed the cable in anger, and it's now working, I told him to push it in with force before, pleb :p
