Looks like something has died in my almost 6 year old PC so probably biting the bullet and just building new.
Dilemma is the title. I want something “future proof” as in a good 4 years. I run poker simulators, do some gaming but also want to do some streaming/making gaming videos with my son.
Would I benefit a decent amount to justify the extra £130 Of the 3700x?
Cheers guys.

Depends if you think you’ll need the extra 2 cores on the 3700x. If you’re streaming it will benefit.

Personally I’d go for the 3700x.

For your needs I would go 3700x.

The 3600 is a great CPU but if you want future proofing you can't really go wrong with picking the 3700X over the 3600.
The 3700X is well known for being a powerhouse for mixed usage like gaming, streaming and video editing.

Regarding the higher price, if you can wait for Black Friday near the end of this month, you might score some discounts.
Have you decided on a motherboard yet?

Looked at the popular B450 MSI Tomahawk Max since so many rave about it. Not sure on how “good” the 570 boards are as not ready much into them

If I got a B450 board with a 3600 would that still allow “future upgrades” or would a 570 board be better then?

I went for the b450 and 3600.
At £300 it seemed like the best value option.

The advantage of 3700 and an x570 board are not worth >50% extra (for me)

When I upgrade next time I will buy another motherboard.

That really is great value. I went X570 and 3600 and it cost me £365 for both. The extra money spent on the X570 I feel will come in handy later when I stick in a 12 core CPU from the 4000 series in a few years time once I can grab one cheap on members market. The better VRMs do help and you get all the extra features now :)

I went X570 (AS rock Tiachi) and an R5 3600x. I will Just plonk a Zen3 in later. I game most,so six core is fine at 1440 for me . When the new game concils come out i will go 8/12 core !!

I wouldn't be concerned by the board. I'm running a 3700x in my x370 just fine.

Obviously make sure you buy a board that can handle the beefier CPU's for safety if that a future concern.

For example I recently bought a cheap B450M A Pro max and CPU wise it has compatibility with the 3900x. So I took that to mean it's VRM can handle it. Not that I'm planning on sticking a 3900x in but you get my point.
