Hi all,

Im in the process of coming back to PC gaming after a few yrs out, i currently have

3600
X570
16 GB DDR4
RTX 3060 TI

4K HDMI 2.1 Screen

So i'm on a budget as we all are nowadays, im looking at getting a 7900 GRE. Now i realise the CPU paired with the 7900 GRE is not ideal but i don't have enough funds to upgrade to a new mobo - ram and a new generation CPU. So i get there will be a bottleneck, but im only after 4k 60 FPS using FSR if needed for some titles. So i'm thinking about upgrading the CPU to a 5600 or 5600X, is the jump to the 5700 - 5800x worth it. Ive posted a similar thread in graphics section but this thread is aimed at CPU performance.

If its the website im thinking how reliable is it for scams like when buying off other auction sites? Ive never bought of there and i don't want a Athon chip sent to me :)

If funds are strict an R5 5600 can be had off said marketplace for around £50 when on offer.

Remember the 5700X3D shines when you're CPU limited and playing a game that loves extra cache, otherwise a standard 5000 series CPU will be a fine upgrade.
So a 5600x would be okish, i'm only aiming for 4k 60FPS with FSR if needed in some titles. I can get one for £117 brand new

I guess i can wait till Friday and see what the 5800X sells at, or get the 5700x3d imported which i'm hesitant as ive never used them before. The feedback seem excellent, i'm just curious to how im covered if something goes wrong

3600 to a 5600 is pointless at 4k as gaming at that resolution in mainly GPU bound. The 5700x3d should give you better minimumsfps at 4k

So what about using FSR and AFMF would that help? that article is 3 yrs old now so i'm wondering if all the tricks at driver level have improved now or the bottleneck will also be there no matter what

Ok thank you, im leaning towards the 5700x3d but still hesitant if anything goes wrong, its not like using OCUK and just emailing them or courier if any problems arise.

Edit: A £15 discount code will be live on Friday taking the 5700X3D to £130.27

I'm so confused now tbh and i do appreciate all the help here, ideally i would prefer to get a 5600x as its cheap and available right now not like the 5700x3d which could take a month i do get the 100mb extra cache and its benefits. Would getting the 5600x be a complete waste of money over my 3600? wouldnt the 5600X be better than a 3600 for bottlenecks when paired with 7900 GRE? The benchmarks linked above are 3yrs old and do not include any driver enhancements which are heavily used even with the RTX 4080-90 7900XTX nowadays. Surely the 5600X would be an improvement over the 3600 at 60hz with the 7900 GRE at 4K 60? I'm not disagreeing with anybody here btw

Thanks for all your help in the thread, after some more research today i think it will be more sensible to get the 5700X3D imported. The £15 discount goes live at 12 tonight so ill order then. Thanks again.

Just an update: So i ordered the 5700X3D last night its says 7th December delivery though im expecting it to be longer than that? I also ordered a 7900 GRE with some new 32GB DDR 4 Ram. This morning also ordered a new PC case as stupidly i forgot about the GRE dimensions :) Thanks all the help-advice

One more thing, ive completely forgot about cooling, im guessing my current Hyper TX3 EVO will struggle with the 5700x3d?

I'd give it a go, I expect it will be fine, but might have to fiddle with the fan curves to get a nice noise profile.
Im decided to give my son his first desktop PC for Xmas so ill be keeping the 3600 RTX 3060ti - Ram - and cooler now (Hyper TX3 EVO ) I just need to get a new cooler for the 5700x3d for myself when it arrives.

Just waiting for 5700x3d and case now...

Update: So the 5700x3d was installed today using a Thermalright Assassin King 120 SE, temps are very good under load, are around 65c but i haven't tested fully yet. My 7900 Gre XFX sounds like a jet engine when playing games, i will have to have a mess around with the fan curve. I haven't done a PC install for a fair few years and it took me a lot longer than the past, i was extremely rusty, the case is a Aerocool Interstellar ARGB getting the front panel cables in the correct order took ages for some reason. The GPU only just fit buy around 1 inch super close to not getting in case, i did research before buying, i did think at one time it would not fit. Ive also had to buy a PCIE card to add USB C to the front panel. Thanks to all who posted in the thread for help and suggestions
