Sounds like it's the perfect time to speculateIt's too early to speculate really until we see the actual retail pricing on availability, rather than pre-order pricing, and independent benchmarks.
The 5600x should have been £249 UK but I can see why they priced it where they did. The 10600k in US is $299 RRP and it selling at around $275 and so matching that which is their largest market segment. The fact the 10600k is £249 in UK is irrelevant unfortunately. But that should be the comparison made on prices, so is the 5600x for what is being touted at 13% performance over the 10700k worth the £40 premium.
The performance from last gen AMD to this gen AMD will be around the similar performance shown for the 3900x to 5900x in my view so take that as you will. Do you want to pay £289 for what would be around 25-30% performance increase over the 3600. Personally I would pay the difference because 25-30% is a decent increase.
@Brumboy maybe I've missed something it but what gpu will you be using?
This ^.
And also when gaming at 4K, I presume there'll be next to bugger all difference in frame rates between a 3600 and a 5600X, or at least not nearly enough to justify the price delta (far less than some of the headline improvements being talked about here), so I'd also say it depends on the balance between the two usage scenarios you describe op.
This is also exactly my scenario (still on a 4690K) and I'm going for a 3600 until the 8 cores are cheaper / games use the extra cores, then upgrading the B550 BIOS, dropping in a 5800X to see me set for years, and retiring the 3600 to my HTPC.
Lots of good responses here!
Well someone posted a link to an article about AMD releasing a 5600 in January for $220? if that is true then that makes everything easier. I really hope it's true.
I currently have a 2080, so plenty of GPU power for my needs, but definitely limited by my 4690k.
As some of you have said the logical thing to do would be wait for benchmarks then assess the difference. Realistically any of the new CPU's will be a massive upgrade.
But then there's always the temptation of going for that new fast product, damn this PC hobby![]()
and 1080p and 1440p are still 90% of users with gaming, so![]()
3600 with a b550 motherboard and cashback from msi promotion.

Has to be brought together from participating partners, check terms.
I'm sure, but the op says he games at 4K.
Sounds like it's the perfect time to speculate![]()
People can and do, they just look increasingly daft over timeQuite. You can't speculate when the facts are in can you...?

Interesting video. I still feel tempted for more, though!
In gaming benchmarks, the 5600X will probably outperform the 3950X.Interesting video. I still feel tempted for more, though!
Probably. That IPC is too strong. In gaming benchmarks, the 5600X will probably outperform the 3950X.
He games at both 4k and 1080p 144Hz, check the first post again.I'm sure, but the op says he games at 4K.
Interesting video. Are we expecting the 5600x to match the 10900k or beat it then?
