37"/42" which one ( lcd or plasma)

I want to get a new TV to use with my Xbox 360 and also Sky HD. I've been in a few shops and the I can't see a lot of difference.

Should I wait for a television that can do both 1080i and 1080P?

Also LCD or plasma, which is better, I don't watch much sport but what the picture to be good on both normal and HD feeds.

Thanks for that but i'm happy to spend £2k + if it buy me a more future proof TV.
