3700+ HSF for 4400+

I've just ordered an OEM Ahtlon 64 X2 4400+.

At the moment I've got a Retail 3700+ cooled by the stock heatsink and fan. It's been very good - kept the load temps around 45C even when overclocked to 2.8Ghz.

When I get the 4400+, I would like to use the same cooler. Is this OK? I won't be overclocking the 4400+, so this HSF should be sufficient to keep it cool at stock speed & voltage?

Thanks for any input,

Jon

Thanks :)

I know the two coolers are slightly different, I don't know by how much.

Well I shall try it and see. If it's too warm I will look at changing the cooler.

Does anyone know if the 3700+ stock cooler is directly interchangable with the 4400+ cooler?

Ie. Can I just unclip one and clip in the other, without removing the motherboard from the case?

Do not all the X2's come with a "heat pipe" type cooler? or is that just the Opteron?

Yup, all the retail ones do, hence why I'm asking. My 4400+ is an OEM version though, and therefore does not come with a cooler.

From looking around the net, people seem to have varying opinions. One person has got a non-heatpipe stock HSF (from a 3500+ I think) cooling a 4600+ X2 and it's doing the job perfectly.

Others suggest not using that cooler but buying a new one.

Seeing as the Stock Heatpipe Cooler (for the X2s and Opterons) is a direct swap for the non-heatpipe version, I think I will try the 4400+ with the non-heatpipe version and monitor the temps.

If it's running too hot for my liking, I'll buy the heatpipe version and stick that in instead :)

Sound like a reasonable idea?
