Hi, i'm upgrading my gaming system and am not sure which cpu to get. Is the X2 3800+ worth the extra £60 or should I go for the 3700+?
I will be overclocking the cpu.

Will the 1MB cache and higher clock speed on the 3700+ make it better for games over the X2 3800+ ?

The pc is used for gaming, internet, listening to music. I don't do any multi tasking.

Thanks

For the shorterm then the single core 3700 would be better for games.
However in a few months whe the games properly utilse the dual cores then they will be the better performers in games.

2.8ghz single core (overclocked 3700)
2.6 dual core(overclocked x2 3800)

I would personally go for the dual core and overclock it.

has to be said, I've just gone from a 2500+ barton to a 3700+ San diego and they are awesome chips, mine running load is barely hotter than the barton at idle.

This is impressive to me for two reasons, my barton has an Aero7 heatsink/fan on it and the SD has stock HS/F and outperforms the aero at full speed.

Gunna look into overclocking mine, see if I can break 3.0 soon :D
