3700+ vs 4200+ X2

what do you do with your pc ? for the most part it is a worth while upgrade but try to get either an X2 4400 or an opteron 170, preferably the opteron 170.

myself i just went from an opty 148 to an opty 170,

thats the equivelant of going from a 3700+ to X2 4200 (apart from the opteron has 2x1mb L2 cache unlike the 4200)

If I had your processor running at that speed, I don't think I would bother with updating it. Put the money aside and save up for a conroe system upgrade!

a single core at that speed V 2 cores at that speed makes a hell of a difference, and he can buy an X2 chip very cheaply right now, pop it in his system, give himself a huge boost to keep him going for the next 12 months and save for the arrival of K8L otherwise known as the conroe killer.

If you only game then there probably is no need for it. Id look at investing in more ram actually. You will see more of a performance increase with 2gb.

I found moving to dual core made my system feel more responsive, but I did have some apps running in the background while gaming.

It would be probably be: Mirc, Winamp, ASE, Messenger, Ventrilo, a few Firefox tabs, firewall and something else I cant remember.
