3700x > 5600x?

A change of case and wanting to cram as much power into a smaller case.

The custom loop as in a Corsair 280x with 2 x 280mm rads populated with 6 P14 fans. But as soon as i saw the SSUPD meshlicious i had to have it. Needless to say I'm crazy surprised how good my Zotac 3090 aircooler is. Gaming for a few hours in a 25-26c room its sits at 65c.

If you're enjoying it why not! I have heard MSFS is pretty demanding, what % does your 5800X run at?

You could always go with the 5xxx series cpu to boost your cpu speed, at least this way your getting some benefit. Although i assume 8/16 is the best going for gaming, but 6/12 also holds it own very well
 
Personally I don't think I could bring myself to upgrade to a CPU with fewer cores unless it has massively better performance per core or was very cheap. The 5600x ticks neither of those boxes.

I'm on 2700x, the 5600x outperforms it but not by enough to warrant the outlay, and the 3700x is closer. Basically I'm waiting for the 5900x to drop in price although I would also consider a 5800x if it ever went to bargain territory (say £200 or thereabouts).

If someone whacked up a 5900x at £399.99 I would probably bite.
 
Personally I think that 5600X and the upcoming 5600G are bonkers priced for a 6c12t today, especially compared to the latest Intel I5s.

For the main PC, I definitely wouldn't want less than a 5800X, and unfortunately those only came out a few months after I got my 10900K, as well as availability initially being crap (huge buyers remorse and I wouldn't recommend any Intel 8+ core CPUs right now).

I would like a 6c/12t for my second PC, but not at anything over £150, and I'm much preferring the sub £100 4c8t I3s instead for that, just trying to hold out for Alder Lake first.

Its funny how AMD are better for high end, and intel better for low-mid range now. Its also curious how after AMD gained the higher ground, they have completely abandoned the <£200 market, meanwhile Intel have always offered Pentiums and I3s at <£100 prices.

i had a six core Phenom II 1090T in 2011, and a six core X99 5820K in 2014, and while i'm perfectly happy to buy the Hardware Unboxed line that 5800X is a waste of money there was simply no way I was going to buy another six core CPU in 2020.
 
I upgraded from a 3800X to a 5800X. Project Cars 2 on a Reverb with a 3080 drops noticably fewer frames, and is now playable in the rain. It chugs a bit, but the frame pacing is much smoother if/when the GPU starts to struggle.
 
Just to chuck into the mix, I had a Ryzen 2700X and went to a 5600X firstly for the increased IPC and also lower TDP as i was moving to a smaller case. No sure offhand how it compared to the 3700X but I found with video editing in vegas the increased IPC easily made up for the loss of 2 cores and it's a lot faster rendering but if you have the extra cash for for the 5800X if you can.
 
I went from a 3600 to a 5800X with a 3080 @1440p and the difference was negligible in most of the games I play especially the newer AAA stuff. the couple of games that saw the most benefit were already running well over 200fps anyway.

With talk of the new 3D V-cache CPUs coming later this year and possibly on AM4 I'd wait and see how this goes rather than buying anything right now.

Yeah, that was my feeling. £300 for a 6 core CPU feels over the odds IMO. The previous gen 3600 was on sale for ~£150 just over a year ago and the 5600x isn't that much faster. Certainly not enough to justify near double the price.

I'm hoping we see a 5600 (non-x) variant for~ £200 in the near future.

The 5600X was a terrible price for a 6 core in 2020/2021 especially when you consider Intel offered virtually the same chip performance wise over 3 years ago for not much more money in the 8700K and yet everyone said Intel was overpriced.
 
I remember my Athlon 4400+ cost me like £350 or £450 back in the day (can't remember which). AMD are only 'cheap' when they're losing, and even then you can always get CPUs from around £50 from Intel.
