3700X to 5900X or 5800X3D

Only you can answer whether it’s worth it or not, it’s your £100 after all.

If you’re not planning to upgrade after this for a while, then in your position, I would go for the 5800X3D.

However, not sure what the stock and supply is like at the moment.

x3d for sure. Your averages will go up but its the minimums you’ll really notice the most leading to a smoother experience.

This will carry over to vr as well with less stuttering or re projection. It’s why I got it.

Personally I went from a 9900k tuned, which is much faster than your 3700x and if I saw major gains, you’ll def see them as well.

I'll chip in, I can't comment on the gaming performance yet but I have noticed an improvement over my 3700X even in office and web browsing.

I went from a 3700X to a 5900X and I noticed a difference even at 1440p but for a pure gaming build today I would lean towards the 5800X3D, just wish it was a bit cheaper!

5800x3d. I mean I have a 5900x and I’m crazy enough to think about upgrading! (admittedly I play a lot of MSFS where 5800x3d really shines).

The 5800X3D almost has my 6950 XT completely bottlenecked in GTA V at 1440P Ultra settings at 188 FPS. Anyone who is familiar with the GTA V engine knows that other CPUs can’t go much higher than 144 FPS.

I've just gone from 3600 @4.3 all core to 5800X3D and in DCS VR with reverb G2 it's given 20-30% uplift across the board on lightly CPU loaded scenarios; heavy CPU scenarios it absolutely blows it out of the water.

This is coupled with a 3070fe (admittedly overclocked and currently 2nd in the global rankings for 5800X3D/3070 combo on 3D mark firestrike) which was running at 95%+ usage with the old CPU, I really didn't expect it to release as much as it did.

Obviously the performance improvement is largely dependent on what it's being used for. It absolutely shines for CPU heavy simulations though :)
