Just replaced my 2500K with a 3770K in the above mentioned motherboard.

Clocked the 2500K very nicely, up to 4.5Ghz at one point. Only thing I changed was the turbo frequency for all 4 cores to 45 and manually set the CPU voltage. AI overclocking was set to manual and XMP profile setting for my memory used. Reboot and hey presto 4.5Ghz under load and 1.6 when speedstep kicks in keeping temps low.

Before I put the 3770K in I loaded bios defaults.

Now trying to clock the 3770K and its strange. Using the same method as with the 2500K dosent seem to be working. Whatever I change the turbo frequency to in the bios it always boots at 4.1Ghz, but when io go back into the bios its showing 45

Is ivybridge different to overclock than sandybridge was. Am I missing something?

It sounds like the turbo is not being engaged for whatever reason (temperature?) as 4.1ghz is 4 multipliers below 4.5ghz, can you not just disable turbo and set the base multiplier to 45?

tried all turbo ratios on auto and just set cpu multi to 45x?

that's all I do on my boards

try a touch more cpu voltage/offset as if too low it will cause it not to oc to full 45x,seen that happen

Yep tried that, even resetting everything to stock results in it running at 3.9. Its as if its not saving the settings on reboot. Yet it was fine with the last CPU.

Ive noticed theres a newer bios than mine so I guess I could flash it and see if it makes any difference.

Ive flashed the latest bios on and its working now. Got it at 4.6Ghz now @ 1.29v. Maybe swapping the CPUs over buggered the bios up somehow.

Just gonna start stability testing it now. Whats the max safe temp for a 3770K? Its idling in the mid 40s on a H100.

yh it sometimes sticks in applying settings, reflash bios cures it

max safe temps imo is between 80-85c max safe voltage for cpu if running 24/7 is anything below or upto 1.4v for me,some use more

Well 4.6Ghz at 1.29v saw temps rocket to 90c during prime and IBT.

Backed down to 4.4Ghz at 1.20v and temps maxxed out at 75c after an hour and a half, so I think this is what I will run it at :)
