3770K Delid

I spent about an hour hitting my 3770k from various angles with a hammer (also tried the method with using the vice to "push" the IHS off) and got nowhere.

It took about five minutes with a razor.

How did you do it ? the only way that works is the IHS held in the clamp securely, with the cpu upside down, block of wood on the edge of the cpu silicon die, then tap it sharply but really rather hard (harder than you might think) and it pops off instantly, took 2 taps to do it, look at this vid:

Edit: don't know why the embedded youtube doesn't work.

I tried two methods: the one you outlined above, and a second one that involved heating up the IHS with a hairdryer then using the vice with one side on the IHS and one side on the PCB to 'push' it off.

By the last few tries I was hitting it fairly hard with the hammer, to the point where it felt like the IHS had warped a little. I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong or if my processor just had super strong glue or something. The razor was literally the last ditch effort, but it took minutes (at the expense of the skin on my hands!)
