Hi

I just bought the following ram

Adata XPG Xtreme v1.0 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C10 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit

this is rated to run at.

I loaded the XMP in the bios which ran it at 2200mhz with i forget what timings but it failed prime.

I set it manually to 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 2T with 1.65v which is its rated speed and again its failing prime.

Ive not really messed with RAM overclocks in the past so I dont know where to go from here.

Is it likely to be my memory controller thats causing me problems?

Thanks
Scott

You might need to raise the system agent and Io voltages with 16gb. Xmp doesn't set this, only dram voltage, speed and timings.

Really? On most of the boards I use it does also set the System agent/VCCSA a little higher if set to XMP. I generally manually set it if I am using 64Gb in a system and that's generally because of the 8 sticks. I couldn't really see it being an issue with just 2 sticks but may be the speed of the memory requires higher IMC voltage.

Is your bclk running higher than stock?

The stock bclk is 100MHz.

To get 2200MHz from that ram with a 21.33x multiplier set via xmp means the bclk is running at a bit over 103MHz.

This could be why its failed.

With the XMP it set the memory multiplier to 22 for some reason I then changed it back to 21.33.

Wazza. I will try changing vtt then report back.

Setter im not quite sure what voltages you mean.

I got it prime stable all day today at 1866 10-11-11-30 2t.

Thanks for the input as ive said RAM overclocking is a black art to me.

Well it crashed again overnight.

Ive now set my IMC to 1.095v as I read it should be set just below the VTT and i will try again.
