Just got a stock 3770k and was wondering whether it's worth over clocking it?
Mainly using this rig as my main games player with a 670 gtx and as rock extreme4,

I don't want to overclocked if I won't get any more out of it, I'll also ask this question on the overclocked page.

Ste

yes its worth it, you can clock it around 4.2-4.5ghz with out any problems at all, just keep an eye on core temps!

Nvidia cards love overclocked CPUs, you will always gain a performance increase. Just make sure you have the adequate cooler for it.

Clock your 670 + your CPU and you'll have noticeable performance increase.

if your running a stock intel cooler i wouldnt bother overclocking

the 670 will play every game you throw at it just fine, overclocking the cpu is free extra performance,it will give you a higher fps in all games compared to stock

im running 4.3 at under 1.2v on my 3770k. What are the rest of your specs, mobo memory etc and we can give you a hand

Asrock extreme4 z77, 16GB Vengeance RAM, 670GTX palit jetstream, tx650w, WD raptor 150gb, 3TB HDD,

Im maybe changing cpu coolers to h100 or air cooler not too sure so could use some help on that too,

Nzxt phantom case too

Easy peasy then, pop into the bios set the max ratio to 42 save and exit, load up cpuz, core temp and p95 let us know the temp and core voltage results at 4.2 id be surprised if you need more than 1.2 the mobo will probably over do it a little but that can be tweaked after. At this setting you shouldnt be anywhere near the temp limit but just in case kill p95 if it starts getting above 80

So to get to 4GHZ i wouldnt have to change voltages at all? Im not to fussed with pushing it just wouldnt mind half a GHz increase,
Also how do i turn of turbo boost? Would it try and boost to 4.4ghz??

Is it worth the cpu cooler increase to keep the temps lower with the oc??

the max ratio is the turbo so set it to 42 and it will boots up to 4.2ghz on load, as above set to 42 save exit and let us know how you get on. All the info to get to 4.2 is in my post above. I wouldnt bother turning off turbo boost, use it to your advantage you dont want 4.2gz sat there on idle

Id probably just be looking for maybe 3.8-4?? Would i need to touch voltages at all?

I have my 3570k running at 3.9GHz with it undervolted to 1.09. Going to 4GHz and above obviously need more volts but TBH 3.9 is more than fast enough for me.

At 1.09v it runs so cool that I don't even have a CPU fan attached!

P.S. This thread is useful for estimating what voltage is needed... http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18413140
