I am looking for an upgrade path onwards from my 3770K rig. I just can't decide on what motherboard to go for? Basicly gona use the rig for gaming and would like to overclock the 8700k for sure. I like the idea of the POST display of the more expensive Gigabyte and Asus board. I also love the idea of the clear cmos button etc on the more expensive Asus board. Ive never owned an Asus board, always had a Gigabyte board after Abit went bye bye.

Any comments of words of wisdom? I am going Intel, so no Ryzen please :p

Also I've always try to stick with Corsair ram, is this 8Pack inspired Team Group stuff any good? I have also eyed up these Corsair ram.

I would also like to transfer these over from my current build to the new build.

Noctua NH-D14, Crucial 480GB, Zotac AMP! Extreme Core GTX 1080Ti, Corsair RM750X PSU and of course my case and fans etc.

Any advice etc much appreciated!

do you find that your 3770k/1080ti is slow? if you're only using it for gaming should be more than sufficient (for now?)
i've got the same setup and i find it's fine for everything i chuck at it.

i'm holding out for the next gen intel/amd chips (hopefully 2019)
reason is that IPC wise, AMD are only marginally ahead of the ivy, and intel 8600k doesn't offer much in the way of a true upgrade vs the 3770k
the 8700k would be a nice jump, in theory, but as we all know, the z370 platform is half-baked, and dead-end.
z390 (and possible 8c intel) is where it's at...

Well if you get the Aorus.. you get FarCry5 for free up until the 30th. Overclock 8 Pack ram to 4000hz and drop 8700k with a small pound to call at 4.9ghz+

Thought you might want to save your cash unless you intend to stream or play most recent AAA titles that do take advantage of more threads like AC: O

So sorry guys, I forgot all about this thead! Thanks for the replies! I ended up with a few upgrades and totally rebuilt my rig...spec as follows...

i7-8700k @ 4.6Ghz - 1.2v / Noctua NH-D14-T'Grizzly Kryonaut
Asus ROG Maximus X Hero / 16GB TG Dark Pro "8 Pack Edition" @3200Mhz
Crucial 480GB / Zotac AMP! Extreme Core GTX 1080Ti / Corsair RM750X

It seems the chip is a good clocker too at 4.6Ghz 1.2v?

This.

My Sandy 2600k is more than enough for today's games at 4.7/4.8ghz when paired with a 1080ti. I played at 1440p so most of the load is at the GPU not the CPU and an upgrade to even a 8700k wont really get me much for the outlay.

depends on the game- least most recent AAA titles like lots of thread but they are few and far between but come end of the year and next , should start to see ryzen and 6 core intels pulling ahead .

@C6ckneyGeezer a abit! loved them with my E and Q 6600 chips!

Ive read many times it's really good ram and 3200Mhz was the sweet spot. I think 8 Pack states you need to downclock for CL10? Think they are CL14 @ 3200Mhz?

I just turned XMP on and they are @ 3200Mhz with no issues at all so far!

Yes, the downclocking is for those who can't achieve a high frequency. If, for example, you can only run it at 2133 on your motherboard, then you can reduce the timing instead, achieving similar ( albeit not the same ) performance.

The 8pack memory is definitely an enthusiasts memory, and I would highly recommend it for an someone who knows what they are doing ~ so they can get the best out of it. It's great value for money.

I think if you are definitely going to overclock then there are better boards than the F. The F VRM's do tend to get a little toasty when overclocked. The new Gigabyte Aorus Ultra Gaming has improved VRM's over the 1.0 and should be better than the F and cheaper too. I would check that out.

If you are seriously in to overclocking it has to be said that all the post leds and on switches and so on that the more expensive boards have are very useful. The Gigabyte Gaming 7 is an amazing board, but has an amazing price too!
