3770k

No they are the same. The IPC increase from sandy bridge to ivybridge is tiny.

Also sandy bridge often overclocks better nullifying the slight IPC benefit.

3770K being the best 1155 chip also commands a silly premium in the used market right now.

Doesn't Sandy Bridge only clock better due to crappy TIM on Ivy Bridge? I seem to remember that was the first time they used it instead of soldering and temperatures were stupid. No idea if they can be delidded though.

If you check the links below the 3770k pulls ahead in a few benchmarks, however in the real world while gaming they are pretty much identical it seems.

I picked my 3770k up second hand as an upgrade from a 3570k. The performance increase was great across most games tbh. However it was £200! But then again it was cheaper than upgrading my mobo and ram too just to jump to Kaby Lake etc.

You can see my small 3770k OC journey here...

Currently at 4.6Ghz @ 1.240v and it's decided.

I guess it all boils down to the rest of your system, how cheap you can upgrade bits etc. I have realised 16Gb of ram is a good idea in the latest games like BF1. Your money will most probably be spent better on a GPU. The GTX 1070 kills everything Ultra at 1080p. You can get away with 1440p with Med/High settings.

Yep it was the first time they stopped using solder. I remember it well because I was building a new system just as the 3570K/3770K came out. I opted for a 2600K at the same price of the 3570K.

Delidding etc. brings overclocking back in line with SB, but not many people do that. The new transistors used for the first time also meant heat wasn't dissipating as well as SB.
