I currently use two 24 inch dell U2412M monitors (1920x1200). My graphics card is an ati 5850. Would this power a 38uc99. I don’t play games, just coding work and some music stuff.

According to this, the 5850 will not be able to output that resolution:

https://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/desktop/5000/5850#

  • Integrated dual-link DVI output with HDCP7
    • Max resolution: 2560x1600
  • Integrated DisplayPort output
    • Max resolution: 2560x1600
  • HDMI® (With 3D, Deep Color and x.v.Color™)
    • Max resolution: 1920x1200
  • Integrated VGA output
    • Max resolution: 2048x1536

But you should be able to find a cheap used old AMD card that support Freesync. Beware the GPU though:

Go for R9 290X, R9 290, R9 285, R7 260X and R7 260 or newer. 280X = 7970 and that will not be fully supported.
