As a newbie to overclocking I was just wondering if I could get some assistance overclocking please peeps. I Have an Asus A8N Sli Deluxe Mobo 2gb 3200 Geil Value Ram and an A64 X2 3800 @ stock. Im wondering is it possible to reach 2.4ghz with this chip at stock voltages? What settings in my bios will need changing to achieve this?

Cheers

Mine will reach 2.7GHz~ in XP, however Vista doesn't seem to like the chip running over 1.4v core, so I'm stuck with around 2.6GHz (290x9).

Thats a 3800+ X2 s939 on an Abit AN8-SLi :)

So yes, its definately possible.

sounds great! I dual boot vista and xp so I will have to stick at 1.4v. Could you give me an idea of what settings to change in my bios? sorry for the 50 questions im just new to overclocking my CPU. Cheers

Its not quite that cut and dry, it all depends on what FSB your board can comfortably do, and what speeds your RAM can comfortably do, however:

Within your OCGuru settings, set your FSB to 240, leave your multiplier at 10x. Set your CPU Core Voltage to 1.4v, your NF4 voltage to 1.65v.

Now, go into Advanced BIOS Settings, and DRAM Configuration. Make sure your RAM is set to Manual (Not AUTO or SPD), and set the speed to DDR333 (this way your RAM will only be clocked to 204MHz up from its stock of 200MHz), Make sure DRAM Drive Strength is "Weak", and that Command Rate is 2T.

See how you get on.

Also, if you get a chance to take your RAM out of the PC, could you tell me what is written on an individual chip (Makes quite a difference to what you can set your mem voltage, speeds and timings to).

Cheers for that mate thats just what I needed.

2Gb DDR400 PC3200 GeIL Value Dual Channel kit. With blue aluminium heatspreaders, rated 3-4-4-8

Thats the memory I have if that helps. The timings are at 3-3-3-8 at the moment though.

Cheers

Plus the memory is at 1T still.

You're lucky there, most AN8's had major issues running at 1T. Only way I can use 1T is to set it in windows with A64Tweaker, and even then its not actually stable.

What FSB are you at, and what did you set your HT Multipler to?

Okey dokey will do. Cheers mate. the HT link runs at 960 mhz at x4 is that ok?

Theres a quick pic of my CPUZ screen :)

Yeah, 960MHz will be fine, you tried pushing a bit further to 250MHz FSB?

Oh and rather than screenshot and uploading the image, use the "validate" function of CPUz (CPUz > About tab), and valdidate at http://valid.x86-secret.com :)
