Hi there, I am looking for a general use computer inc Photoshop use, but not games. Seen these two specs advertised at the same price. How would the processor/graphics performance of these two systems compare?

Intel® Pentium® D Processor 820
HT Tech.(2.80GHz,2x1MB Cache,800MHz)
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center
ASUS ATI Xpress 200 PCIe Mainboard
1024MB DDR2 533MHz Memory
250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
256MB ATI Radeon Integrated Graphics

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 3800+ AM2 Processor
with HyperTransport™ Technology
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center
ASUS PCIe Mainboard - nForce 430Chipset
1024MB DDR2 533MHz Memory
160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
128MB NVIDIA GeForce 6150 Graphics

Many thanks, Simon.

Go for the X2 3800+

No comparison

The PD 800 series isn't at all great and the AMD64 CPUs do rather well in photoshop as shown by a photoshop benching thread floating around here a few months ago

The X2 3800+ is intended to be the rival for the PD 840 - it walks all over this let alone the PD 820

go for the X2. Also if you decide to overclock then the D805 will use a LOT of power. It's a great overclocker but only if you want your CPU to drain 200+watts!

Don't I know it :P

In this case, Get the X2 3800 for simplicity, or a 805 if your willing to clock.

Your forgetting the X2 is also a very good chip for overclocking :)
2.7 - 2.8GHz is on the cards

Conroe, Even the E6300 is faster than either the PD or the X2 (at stock speeds) If your into overclocking the E6300's even better.
