3800 x2 vs intel 930 duel core

Most X2 3800s will overclock enough to outpace an X2 4800. And whilst the 930s will overclock as well, I doubt they'd overclock enough to outperform an overclocked X2 in most things. AMDs dual core is far more elegant, runs cooler and uses less power. You'll also be able to drop it into your current system, if it's what is in your sig. Going for an Intel dual-core will require more part swapping, probably nullifying any saving.

this is for my dad and he isn't overclocking mate.

can't drop it in this shuttle .. would love to but it's the wrong socket.
