3850 256MB@1680x1050. Help me with settings in games

Hi. I have built a system that is not very powerfull but i am happy with it. It is a e2180 running at 3.0ghz a P5K, 2GB of GEIL and a HD3850/256. 10181 points of love in 3DMark06

I am new in PC gaming and i am a bit confused with the settings. I guess that the weak point of my system is the video RAM when playing modern games. I want to keep playing at native 1680x1050 res. If the games does not play smooth enough what are the settings i have to lower first?

Depends entirely on the game, but settings which adjust texture size or quality, shadows or soft shadows and lighting or shaders would probably help. Obviously make sure AA is off and AF is on no more than 8x.

you could gain ground by dropping the res to 1440 x 900 which will give you a gain and as long as your tft scales well you'd be pushed to notice
