Hi all,

My 2600xt just popped :( I was saving for an upgrade but the card died much earlier than I expected. So, would it be worth getting a cheap upgrade to PCI-E and the 3850, or wait a week for the 3850AGP?

If it's just the same price to upgrade, could you please show me a motherboard I'd need to upgrade to, to get PCI-E?

Current spec (thanks to Will_3rd in another thread ^^):

(dead)AGP 2600XT
Intel Core Duo E2140
Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (AGP/PCI-E)
Crucial Ballistix 2GB 667MHz Dual Channel Kit

I know that Motherboard has PCI-E but I've heard it doesn't support the 3850's.

Thanks.

It will cost you about the same but this motherboard gives you a better base to build on and should also help with overclocking as well. :)

Awesome! Thanks a lot for your help, may get the offer on the graphics card on this week only "Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 3850 Pro 512MB GDDR3" - what's the difference between those cards? ...just read that the cooling doesn't seem as good on the OCUK one, which scares me because that's what my last two cards died of.

Damn, scrolling further down I see another tempting offer "HIS ATI Radeon HD 3870 XT ICEQ3 512MB" for this week only. Decisions, decisions... :D

@hitman: Cheers for the info mate, but I got rid of Vista a while back - didn't like it at all (mostly because of sound problems).

The higher priced cards come with more freebies usually, not sure about the difference in cooling though
