Is PCIe 2.0 required to crossfire these? I have a Blitz formula motherboard with has the crosslinx chip (2x8 speed ports rather than 16+4) will this be ok?

I'd be amazed if it didn't w3bbo. I'm running 2900xt's on a P35 DS3P (16+4) with no problems whatsoever.

Might be worth waiting for others to clarify just incase though! ;)

I remember some statement from ASUS before the 8800GT was released saying that there are issues. See this for further details and the official statement here

My read of that is that 2 PCIe 1.1 cards will work, but as soon as you put a PCIe 2 card in the second slot it will fail.

Nice find Gribble,

Doesn't look good then!

"In other words, the Asus Blitz mainboard owners should install PCI Express 2.0 graphics cards only into the primary PCI Express x16 slot marked as PCIEX16_1. So, these mainboard cannot have the future PCI Express 2.0 graphics cards working in CrossFire or SLI mode.

Note that these limitations have been revealed only for the Blitz mainboard series that uses CrossLinx chip. Other Asus mainboards on Intel P35 chipset should have no problems with PCI Express 2.0 graphics cards support."

Interested in crossfire too - would these cards run on an "old" crossfire 1 board? Using an asus 8R32MVP (R580 chipset I believe) with dual pcie x16. Do the 3870's specifically require "crossfire-x"? Currently using 2 1950XT's.

Yes they run fine in crossfire in PCIe 1.1. Yes I have it running on an IP35-PRO P35 board with a 16x and a 4x slot. No you can't see a noticable difference between 16x and 4x.

Yes, this has been answered before.
