3870 slow speeds

I have installed a powercolour 3870 xt and my 3d mark 01 scores have dropped by 20000 marks on removing my x1900xt

any ideas?, could it be my mobo

System is

185 opteron
Asus A8R-MVP crossfire
2 x 1 gig geil memory
2 x 250 gig hdd
Koolance water cooling on processor
windows xp sp3

thanks for any ideas
 
power is a tagen modular at @750 watts

yes 6 pin power cable is connected

185 opteron gives 28000 marks with a x1900xt so should be at least as fast as that with the 3870 - actual is 8000

have tried 8.4 , 8.5 & omega drivers just in case & yes did clean all traces of old drivers & final test was a total format & re install of sp3
 
28000points in 3DMark01 on an X1900XT? Bit low aint it my 3700+ @ 2.8 and an X800XT PE where getting around 35,000 :confused:
 
forget 01. try some games instead. i remember ages ago, my x1950pro scored less than my x800. suffice to say in real game performance it blew it away. :p
 
I have run 03, 05 & 06 all show the same level of slowdown

but when you get as low as 2 fps on high detail of the car test in 01 there is something wrong
 
latest chipset drivers for your mobo? latest gfx drivers for your card? all settings at default? drives defragged? no rubbish running in the background of your windows install? :)

1, yes, 2, yes, 3, did a clean install with latest drivers


the question I asked in my first post that most are missing is its a pci-e 1.0 mobo with x16 slot

this card asks for a pci-e 2.0 x 16 slot

is this or could this be the problem?
 
it should be just a case of reinstalling drivers after the gfx card change. It should be noted that 3dm01 game tests wont stress the card in any way (well..apart from nature test) so the card could be stuck in 2d clocks mode, but i doubt this is the case. pretty much runs 100% on cpu and 15% on gpu acording to overdrive and the fans wont ramp up. Still a 30k score should be minimal.

there is a threshhold that looks to be around 30% gpu use before the 3d clocks kick in . (noticed through overdrive window in ccc)

edit: I mean Low power 3d clock speed / which is same as 2d speeds. wont go up to high power 3d clocks untill a gpu use threshhold has been reached.

Yes it was the board not having the legs to run this card

just upgraded to c2d E8400
Asus P5K3 deluxe board
2 gig DDR3 1333
now getting over 45K in 3d 01 & over 10K in 3d 06 with everything at stock

Glad to hear you got it sorted matey, i wasnt going to post in the thread from the start, didnt want you to think i was trying to get other people to fob you off in anyway.
