3870 x2 and crossfire

Im thinking about upgrading to a 4870 x2 when they are released.

I going to upgrade to a x38 or x48 mobo and upgrade psu to a
enermax galaxy 1000w.

When i finally buy a 4870x2 will i be able to use with my 3870 x2 in " quad crossfire " ?

Now i know people are going to say overkill or no point but i dont want to sell my 3870 x2 as i will be keeping as a test card or maybe for a new build for my son in the future.

So even if i get some performance increase would be great but then again im thinking will the 3870 x2 bottleneck the later?

All thought would be appreciated

Just been looking on the ati website

The compatabilty chart does show that the 4870 can crossfire with 3870 x2
via internal crossfire interconnect so thats interesting
