Anyone know the release dates ?

All I can find is "this card will be in production in a few weeks"

Im going to wait for this revised version instead of going for the DDR3 version.

Didnt know about that. Might keep an eye out for it. On the old x1950xtx ( or was it the x1900) i think the DDR3 versions were said to be faster than the DDR4 versions because they had tighter memory timings. Might be different now

Seems like timing have made a difference as the performance of the 2900XT with GDDR3 and the one with GDDR4 was minimal, like 3fps.

i think they were the same really or with in 1 or 2 frames and cost more

I think i would rather stick with Crossfiring 2 3870 than getting an X2. I don't know why, but the X2 doesn't appeal to me as much as CrossfireX HD3870 do. In some games the X2 beats it by a few FPS at the res i play. But in games i play like Unreal Tournament 3, the FPS was higher with 2x 3870, compared to the X2 which was about 7 FPS slower.

On topic: I don't think GDDR4 is going to make a whole lot of difference.

Depending on resolution it might do. The reason the 2900XT with GDDR4 wasn't any faster than the GDDR3 version is because it wasn't bandwidth limited (thanks to it's 512bit bus).

The 3850/3870 series only have a 256bit bus. The 3870X2 also only has 256bit bus per core.

I think the 3850 wich has GDDR3 memory clocked at the same speed of the 3870X2, has a bandwidth of 56+Gb/sec, while the 3870 which has GDDR4 has a bandwidth of 78GB/sec.

These cores really need as much bandwidth as they can get at higher resolution with AF/AA. Who knows, maybe it really does have enough bandwidth, but I doubt it.
