Hey all,

After waiting and waiting for the GX2 - it has come to my attension that after looking forward to an AWESOME card, reports say that it's going to be... well complete cack :p

Therefore, Im strongly thinking about going for the 3870 X2.
So... here are a few questions:

1. I'm going to be grabbing a 24" monitor shortly... how well does it perform at 1920x1200 in different games?

2. Does it require a crossfire MB?

3. How are the drivers at the moment? Reason I ask is that I heard that when the card came out the drivers wern't taking full advantage of the other GPU.

4. I've really been a Nvidia fan for a very long time indeed, and have only ever had 1 ATI card before... therefore, which company should I buy? I.e. Asus, HIS etc.

5. Final question :p - How does it compare to the Nvidia 8800 GTX?

Thanks,
Marky

Thanks,
Marky

1. I play @ 1680x1050 so I cant answer that.

2. No. Just a 16x PCI-e slot.

3. The drivers are OK, The only game which I have had issues with is CoD4 SP where i get random drops, This is only in SP though. The card seems to perform much better on Vista than XP for me.

4. I'd go simply for the cheapest unless your really bothered about a long warranty.

5. For me it performs better than the GTX in every game @ 1680x1050. Crysis is so much smoother. CoD4 runs much better also apart from the random FPS drops, which I'm pretty sure will be sorted very soon. I'm definitely glad I sold my GTX for this.

I have to agree with perox. The drivers do need to mature abit but then that applies to any new card the GX2 looks like an underproformer for what it really is.

Okay thanks buddy :)

Can anyone answer the questions he wasnt able to answer? :p

Rezes like 1920x1200 are what the 3870X2 is primarily aimed for, I have a 2900XT and it handles all most of my games with all details at max (cept aa it's not needed as much at 1920x1200 on a 24") except crysis of course. I'm gonna be moving over to 2 3850s crossfired in about 10 days though :p. An X2 should be really good for you, personally i don't think the 9800GX2 is all that impressive. :)
