Hi all

im considering getting on of these cards but it would be my first ATI card so i have some questions.

i notice that there are a few different models from the different brands. ranging from £230 to almost £300 with the only difference (particualrly on the asus) being a different cooler. is the cooler on the asus worth the difference or are the £230 models just as good?

secondly with nividia its pretty easy to get the drivers i need i just go to the nividia webby and download the 64bit drivers for my card. does it work the same with ATI? and if so is there 64bit drivers decent?

also any other opinions or things i should know about the card i would be very appreciative

thanks

keep your money in your back pocket and wait till around july, new cards are out

Agreed really.

If the OP is really desperate for a new card he could maybe get an 8800GT, and then buy the new gen cards a month or so after release - their price would probably have settled a little and would be more available too.

*edit*

Ignore that last bit, I didn't realize he already had an 8800GTS.

i may possibly need to buy a new gfx card anyway as i have been havng some issues with my current one,

i have some money saved (its amazing how easy it is to do that now im single :) )

so could buy a decent card now and get a next gen one later in the year.

i would still be interested to know about the drivers etc with ati.

also im mainly looking at ati as im told my Mobo wont support sli or crossfire properly and the nividia duel gpu cards wont do duel screen which is a must for me.

i have the asus version and at rest its almost silent and speeds up when necessary but only in steps not on or off, so generally its very easy to live with. i beleive some of the other brands the fan is full load constantly from what i have read.

I also have the asus card and it really suprised me with how quiet the cooler is, even under load it isnt very intrusive.

Tempted to buy a second one but will wait for the new models, 4870x2 * 2 would be useful :D
