3870x2 is it broken?

i'm getting random lockups and restarts, bsod's with a atikmdg.sys or something like that error message and it does a memory dump, it can be at full load in a 3d game or on the desktop browsing web pages, I have the latest drivers and have tried running the cpu at stock speed and overclocked to the same result, the card is an asus 3870x2 retail stock speed, i have a 700w ocz psu, 3 hd's 1 optical drive, sycthe ninja cooling a e4300, 4 case fans, relatively cool room 2gb geil ram, ab9 pro mb, antec p182 case.

I'm fairly well up on diagnosing problems and tweaking systems but cannot for the life of me pinpoint this problem, ive tried different ram also, ive upped and down the mb voltages and tried every conceivable combinations of settings. Is it time to give up and try another card, which card is a good upgrade to this. Whats the warranty on these cards, i bought it 2nd hand from the MM about a year ago.

9-6s ?

try eearlier drives like 9-5s i had locks up and poor peferformce with 9-6 particaly overclocked

Least time consuming and fairly quick test would be to underclock the card slightly, and see if the problem persists.

I've updated as when they've been released and to no avail, can i underclock with the standard ati control panel?

you can use ATI tray tools also to under clock
