With new PCIe 2.0 bridge chip

ATI is working on a new revision of its Radeon HD 3870 X2 card and if all goes well, you should be able to get one by the middle of Q2 if not even earlier.

The new card will have an updated PLX bridge chip that will support PCIe 2.0 and at the same time, ATI is trying to shorten the PCB and add GDDR4 to the card. The current Radeon 3870 X2 has a PLX chip that supports PCIe 1.1 communication and obviously, a new card should have some better results with the faster inter-chip communication.

The RV670 chips will upgrade to revision 12 and this can probably means a higher frequencies and more performance. The current Radeon

Interesting. Wonder how much difference it will actually make with proper pci-e 2 this time?

Score differences between 8x/8x and 16x/16x are usually less than a couple of %.

It is the GDDR4 and rev12 cores i'm more intrested in.

Sure optimised cores are coming, but GDDR4? With the way R600 is setup, it doesn't seem that 4 has any advantage over 3 at all in performance terms.

so scrap their next cards for quarter 2 then, if they still gona churn out their old ones then, jesus becoming a ******* farce this, they'll both still be churning out their old crap quarter 2 of next ******* year at this rate.:D:D:D

said same thing in other thread lol

cos if there spending this much time and money on refreshes... I think both Nvidia/ATI dont wanna release faster/chipsets they just wanna refine there old stuff so it becomes cheaper for them and if anyone complains like us its triple SLI or Quad Crossfire ;)

I dont reckon we gonna have any new series this year cos we got it already ;)

4000 out in Q2 ATi have already said.

Specs floating round the net, its like an uber refresh, 480 shaders and 1Ghz core speeds.
