I just got a 3870X2 (MSI OC version so GPU's should be 850MHz) and after running GPU-Z I've noticed something strange with the clock speeds. I've taken 4 screen dumps, 2 for each GPU.

In addition my 3D mark 06 score is lower than I got with my old 1900XT  just under 6000

I've uninstalled ATi 8.1 Cat's and then rebooted and installed them again (done this twice) but it's still the same.

Any suggestions ? My nice new card is not performing as it should do and I'm beginning to think I should have switched back to nVidia.

Rest of system is E6600 @ 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM (Vista sees 3072MB) in a Gigabyte DS4.

Don't know whats wrong with it but i do know when you sort it out your cpu is going to bottlekneck it. you will need to overclock your cpu to see its full potential.

gpu-z stuff doesn't matter. i can never understand why people open any random monitoring app and take the numbers as gospel. Why not look at what the clock speeds say after installing the msi drivers from the disc in the CCC.

the score is low, no idea why, what psu you got, what did you connect to the card. a stock kinda score and with a C2d at 2.4Ghz you should probo be looking at a 11.5-12.5k score probably something around that.

almost all cards have different 2d and 3d clocks, and have had for many many years to save power. my guess would be power issue of some sort, connector on card not fully clicked in, lack of psu juice, possibly some setting in bios with the slot at 8x pci-e speed, maybe. or even, gigabyte have often had issues with pci-e running at 1x, try locking pci-e speed in bios to 101Mhz. errm, other than that, probo a driver issue. try cd ones, or redownload 8.1cat's, and the 8.1 hotfix and retest.

I have a 600W Seasonic PSU and the PC is totally stable. Not that fast but stable, lol.

I'll try your other suggestions and see how I get on.

I have the same cpu as you clocked to 2.92Ghz, 2 gigs of Ram, Sapphire 3870X2 and I am getting 14,200 in 3DMark 06 in Vista havent tried it on stock though. 8.1 cats plus hotfix

I haven't used driver cleaner pro yet, I just used the ATI Install Manager and uninstalled through that.

I've just done a BIOS update on the DS4 as well as loaded the MSI 8.45 drivers from the CD instead of the downloaded Cat 8.1's + hotfix and 3DMark has improved to over 11,000 so is far better than before.

I think I'm happy that the card's running properly now. Thanks for the ideas and assiatance. :)
