hi, just a bit of advice on the following...
I have read somewhere that it is better to have a 38mm fan fitted to a rad when water cooling.
Now I know the great debate on SilentX fans but I can't seem to find many if any 38mm other than their lastest:
Specifications
Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 38mm
Input: 12V/2.4W
Speed: 1500 RPM
Air Flow: 72 CFM
Noise Level: 14 dBA

At the moment I am running a SilentX 120mm standard 25mm and was wondering if I would see a difference in temps by swithching to a deeper fan and if so by what degree?

Yeah but what I don't want to do is to under volt it to obtain the already quiet set up I have now, also losing some CFM's in the process.
Like I said I know the SilentX figures are off the mark but all I want to do is get a bit more air flow through the rad.
Would you have any linkys to reviews on the Panaflo m1/L1 so I can see some figures?

no reviews as such, they are highly regarded int he watercooling community.

your silentx one is pushing hardly any air through the rad.Thats why its quiet.

Yate Loons are also great fans, hard to come by though. Sorry i cant be of much help as i never had L1's or yate loons, not through want of trying though.

I used Xinruilians, which were good for airflow, but not silent. used them at 7v 24/7 and they provided good temps at *near* silence.

Found a German site from a post in these forums...bit dodgy on the translation but they sell Yate Loons so may give them a try.
cheers for the tip:)

You could just save yourself the trouble and pick up a couple od the Akasa ultra quiets (aka Ambers) from OcUK - they're silent and push a lot of air - the real terms difference will be minimal.

Davemac I am using a 120mm rad,Not sure if its an Asetek one.Only cooling my cpu with it.
Like I said temps don't really come into it i'm not overclocking and my temps are well within the norm tho a few degrees lower would be a nice bonus I was more interested in a good 32mm to push the CFM's but keep things quiet.
Saying that the Ambers do seem to come upto spec. Thanks cavemanoc:)
Is there any particular Nexus to check out and add to my list of options?

I would argue strongly with that statement. The Ambers are pretty low airflow fans compared to Panaflows for about the same level of noise. You would notice a difference. I promise.

If its a dense rad, yes 38mm fans are the way to go...

if its a thermochill PA or a BIP ... id say not much difference will be noticed tbh...

but over the SilenX - yes, since they are massively over rated CFM and under rated DBA.. but not over a 25mm deep quality fan...

Yate Loons are the way to go, import em from the US and theyre dirt cheap :D

Cheers for the info,I've already ordered an Amber so will compare it to the Silentx I have already got installed.
If I don't get any joy from it I can always chuck it in my kids pc as that thing sounds like a wind tunnel :D so won't be a complete waste of money.I'll then try and track down a Yate/Nexus.
