Bought a PCS+ 390 and seemed to be working fine. Installed windows, updated to crimson drivers, started to install some steam games and PC just shut off. Would not turn back on. Removed the card and the PC booted using onboard graphics. Tried reseating it a few times but when its in the PC it wont turn on.

Only have a 550w EVGA Supernova GS, gold rated, but thought it would have enough juice on the 12v rails to run it fine.

I would say new power supply for a 390, 550W is cutting it, maybe too, fine.

I would go for a 650-700W minimum. especially for the AMD cards as they use more power.

Will try it in my main PC first then, 1000w in that. Just strange that it worked for a few hours while installing windows 7, then 10. Then crimson drivers, then steam, then "died".

Although it has been suggested that a 550w PSU might not be quite enough for your system, I don't think it is the PSU that's at fault here. I can't see a 390 overloading a gold rated 550w PSU during boot up, or even preventing your PC turning on. In fact, you stated that the PC was working for a while before it refused to switch on. Sounds like the graphics card is faulty. I wouldn't totally rule out the power supply, but from your description of what happened, it's more likely to be the card.

That 550w tho not a big one, shoulddeal fine with a 390. As you said plenty of power on the 12v rail. So if you system is not full withh HDDs it should be enough. Card could be faulty, best way is to try in another comp.

I think 600W PSU is the recommended minimum.

Which has always made me question the spec of the "Marvel 4K" PC system, that comes by default with a 390x and strangely a 480W PSU!

Just a thought, you installed the December 17th Crimson, not the dodgy November 30th ones?

Seems it's not the PSU. He wrote above he tried it in his other PC with a 1000watt PSU and still had same issue.

Just tried it in my PC, same issue. Think its faulty. :(

I would return it mate.

Ofc it's not because it's only 550w, especially when you weren't even stressing it. That's more than enough anyway (so long as you don't try to push OC).

Rest of PC is minimal, 3570k, 1 SSD drive, 3 fans, cpu cooler fan.

Latest crimson drivers from AMD site. Have sent in an RMA request.

Thankfully the onboard graphics just about let my son play a bit of Borderlands 2 so he is happy for now. :D

Replacement arrived, working great. Maxxed out Lego Marvel and Borderlands 2....:p Not exactly pushing it with those games but so far so good. :)
