all the recent 1070 hype aside...
i have around the £300 budget, cant see the 1070s been there for a while.

the 390x comes up almost identical stats wise against the 1070.. i think it was direct x 12 vs 12.1... oh and the 390 requires twice the power...
also the 390xs are coming down in price..

Thoughts?

Wait until the 480 is out... All you had to do was look at 2 of the other threads in this section and they would pretty much tell you "480 is close if not better than 390x and cheaper and is released 29th june".

They're not really comparable in performance either, the 390X is more like a GTX980 than a GTX1070.

As said above, you really want to be waiting.

1070 is more like 380-400£, if you can stretch your budget a bit more.
you also have the RX480 coming out 29th june, supposedly 390x/980 performance (that 20-30% slower than 1070) with a starting price of 200£, and the card should be much more efficient using about 120-130watt instead of 250watt of the 390X
im more bang for the buck kinda guy, so the RX480 seem like better pick to me.

Wait for the RX 480 launch on June 29th and then make a decision between that and the 1070. The 390X is a good card, but essentially irrelevant at this point when the 480 will offer at least that level of performance whilst using (perhaps less than) half the power for less money.

As others have said already, wait for the 480. I imagine quite a few will be upgrading monitors to HDR with these new cards. If you can stay with an AMD card you will save again by going with AMD's Freesync vs Gsync also.
