Hi, I'm using a 3930k with sabertooth board, 32gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz ram, no gpu tuning.

I've just ordered the XSPC ex360 raystorm D5 kit.

I want to run a safe, stable 24/7 system, and I want it to last a good few years. However, I want to do so while getting as much power out of the cpu as possible!

I understand that every chip is different, but are there any guidelines you could offer, what I should expect, and what I shouldn't try to exceed? Voltage range, temperatures, limitations due to using a lot of ram etc?

Thanks for yout time!

Edit, just to add, won't be using any power saving features so cpu will be running full speed all the time.

Depends how long term you want.
CPUs degrade naturally, the more voltage and heat the faster it will degrade.

Reardless of which, 1.45v might net you 4.8GHz on water and last you quite some time.

My X79 guide is in the stickys I would follow this initially.

Your Overclock will be limited by the 32gb of RAM due to stress on the IMC. The ideal on 2011 is 16gb tops. You will need to tune VCCIO for sure to get the top clocks.

Any questions post back.

Thanks for that, OCUK were out of stock on my case and water parts last week but hopefully they should be delivered in about 20 minutes so I hope to finally make a start on this tonight.

I've read your guide, so I think I have a basic idea of where to start, I'll let you know when I get stuck ;)

PS, my RAM is jsut the Vengeance 1600mhz stuff, does the fact that it's not particularly fast help the IMC?

Ok so I've done a bit of tuning, I've arrived at a 4.5ghz overclock, 1.35 vcore in bios, 1.336 under load. 4.6ghz threw up a 101 BSOD.

My average temperature after 10 passes of prime was 65C, with the hottest core reach 72C. Which one of these 2 numbers would you pay the most attention to?

Also I got warnings when my VRM temp went over 80C, is that something to worry about?

Not a mega overclock, but seems like a decent start. Where yould you go from here?
