I just installed a 3930k CPU. Have not OC yet just testing the installation.

I have run Prime95 for around 30 mins. Are these temps about right when running Prime95?

look alittle hot 2 me on stock what fan you got ?

The cooler is a Megahalems. I only have one fan running at 1000 rpm at present as I am waiting for a couple of Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850 RPM's to arrive.

My main cocern is to make sure the CPU/Thermal/Cooler, is seated properly.

Well here are the stock idle and max using Prime95

Looking around 29c -30c and 49c - 50c seem to be the normal at stock so I might re-seat the cooler.

the fans will make a big difference on that cooler, if you reseat and they are the same I wouldn't worry too much

the megahalems does seem to struggle on the 3930k anyway, lots of people complain about high temps when OC-ing 3930k with mega, even the super mega

Megahalems + 1x1000rpm 120mm fan on a hexcore cpu low 60s do seem a little high, not by much though.
Regardless of which, Keep it under 80c and you're fine.

I'm placing an order later this week for a 3930k rig but with the Phanteks PH-TC14PE cooler, will try and remember to let you know how i get on. I will post a thread based on it anyway.

You've got quite a big difference in temperatures between your cores...... 10c difference.......... which could be a sign that your thermal interface isn't that great. Might as well re-do the paste to see if there's a difference.

High load temperatures are to be expected if you're running a slow fan, especially if it's at a constant speed and not controlled by the bios to speed up when things get hot. 30-50 might be average, but I expect the majority of those setups will be noisier than yours.

Thanks for the confirmation

The Phanteks look good but it will not fit on my rig as as I have 64GB of high profile ram. Even with the Megahalems it is a very tight squeeze. The Armageddon are the best fit depth wise, but as they are so wide I loose the 1st Pcie x 16 slot. In other words the perfect cooler for the GA-X79-UD5 board in my opinion does not exist unless you go water based.

Might as well re-do the paste to see if there's a difference.

Yep thats what I shall do as my new fans arrive tomorrow.

i just got the phantecs with my 3930 this week , overclocked @4.5 temps in the low to mid 70's, they are big had a struggle to fit it into my antec 1200, and had to spin it around as the direction i originally had it blocked the top pcie slot, but all seem s fine atm.

Well you were right. I reseated the cooler, but it made no difference.

I then replaced the fan on the megahalems with two Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850 RPM fans and the temps dropped to just over 50c on full load.
