Hi Guys my Current setup is:

.3930k
.asrock extreme 9 mobo
.Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E CPU

I think issues I am current experiencing is due to my CPU overheating (well Hitman Absolution keeps crashing)

I originally had my OC to 4,5ghz but I toned it down to 4ghz after what I thought was overheating problems.

I am running IntelBurnTest on max settings and I get a CPU temp of 77. When Idle I get about 39-45 degrees c. When I OC'd to 4,5ghz, idle temps were the same and max load temps were about 82-83.

Does this seem right to you guys, or does this seem abnormal.

Thanks,

James

I get 80c max in IBT on Maximum @ 4.5GHz with the Phanteks. So yeah, about right.

Though IBT is a ridiculous application. Run Prime95 and it'll be around 5c cooler, and you'll still not get that close in normal usage/gaming.

I don't think so, mine hits about 80 under IBT @ 4.5, just like Rossi~ said, I don't worry about it, rendering flat out on all cores in Cinema 4D for hours won't take it over 70.
So I can't see how Hitman could send your temps into the danger zone from 77 on IBT.
You could try to run it in windowed mode with a hardware monitor to double check.
More likely would be instability of overclock (seems unlikely on a 3930k @ 4ghz though), or game/ driver instability).

I have found with these chips that water cooling is pretty much a must for a decent overclock. I run mine at 4.6 (1.34V) and temps sit around 45C idle and max 55C under load. 5Ghz (1.495V) sees my temps at 65C max.
