3930k vs 3960x - actual performance difference?

A lot of people say using the 125 strap is better for ocing, but I have found with my system it prefers the 100 strap.

Glad you got the memory up and running.

Have you asked 8 Pack in the memory thread

Thanks, will remember, right now building P8Z77/3770K, HyperX already bought, still X79 got my interrest :-)

got the 8 x 8gb up and running currently at 1600mhz

Hope to hear how this works out in the end, guess there is some tweaking and mem-test ahead, but sounds fine, best wishes,..

Since the memory-controller is in CPU, like Ivy, I guess your soultion might be adoptable to all other X79 Motherboard, and not specific to your board,..

In real world terms you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between at 2500K stock and a 3960X overclocked in gaming.

Why do people keep spouting this damn nonsense..... People do more with their rigs than game believe it or not....

According to ADK-audio who builds rigs for the audio/video market, there is
also a better memory-controller in 3960x, its a VERY hard job getting 3930
to work with 64 GB ram, or even most 8 GB modules available, they work
with many 4x4 kits though, and guess that what most people go for, but
not enough for a top-tuned video-rig. If I was to build a socket 2011 system
I would have to go for 3960x just becourse of this, saving me any troubles
with 64 GB ram when overclocked,

This is totally incorrect. memory controllers on each CPU are equal and indeed its a silicon lottery what is achievable with 64gb. I have tested a lot of these chips and I settled for two 3930K as my CPU.

Both do DDR2590-2600 not one 3960X I had would with 16gb.

8 x 8gb is easy at 1600mhz.
