Not sure if the quote is about the 3900x to the 3950x , but isn't the 3900 a 12 core and the 3950 a 16 core ? , so not just the extra 100mhz for £250 +

Would you really pay a £250+ for a 100mhz extra over the 3900x's nearly 4.6 boost? Perhaps because you have an x470 you're looking for an excuse to a higher spec CPU. Can't help but feel that RAM won't allow Infinity Fabric to make the most of the higher core CPUs.

yep , me too , I've had all my bits for the last 3 months waiting what happens with intel and amd.
But no got the motherboard or memory so can still wait until after xmas , but I can see me still waiting to see what happens with gen 4.
You could say it is blackmail with the high pricing , but buying a CPU is not like water , food or oxygen, no one is forcing you to buy, it's all supply and demand.

Well I guess it is supply and demand, only got to look at UK property prices. I remember early 2000's you could buy a house on a credit card for the deposit, then get a 125% mortgage from Northern Rock to do up your house or buy a car!

Yep , I can remember what happened to Northern Rock which had the be nationalised due to financial problems, so may not be the best case for supply and demand.

True, Though demand for UK property is still very high. Just the Northern Rock thing is now 'Help to Buy' (SELL).

Indeed its supply and demand and if i can get a 3950x in RRP day one i would gladly do that than get the inflated price of the 3900x. I am all about a good deal and it has been a while since i paid rrp anything but for this case it seems that i will have to do the exception.

Well given there was no preorder on the other chips this year I’d say from the 25th if the date in the AMD notes is correct.

A quick google shows that neither of those take much advantage of a great number of cores. I'd suggest researching a bit more but I would expect a twelve core 3900X to offer little over the eight cores of a 3700X for those applications.

Interesting. I have the 2700 and been thinking of upgrading to the 3900X. So is it fact that going that route would be a wate and better off saving and buying the 3700X? Main use Photoshop and Premier Pro

I got the Asus Rog Strix Gaming-F but I got this because there was an offer on with a 1tb Corsair MP600.

I also have 16gb Gskill Trident Z Neo CL16.

Prices have dropped since I bought this so I might get 16gb more

Thank you, I was looking at 32gb of the Trident Z Neo but its hard to find in the uk.
Also mobo i was set for the Asus Rog Strix x570-E but now some prices have fallen and the MSI Meg Ace, Unify and Aorus Ultra also are contenders in my mind.
