Hi guys, not too clued up on networking. Got a 3CR858-91 router, and can't get it to work with the net. I've tried running the wizard but it doesn't help me that much, will I need to phone telewest to get them to change the IP address from my modem to my router? I feel lost

nope and trying that lost my connection for 10 minutes, said that the network hadn't assigned IP address properly... windows tried to 'fix this' but failed. Few restarts later (PC & modem) and its working again, without the router... I know I've done something wrong somewhere but where?

is there a total dumb ass guide to setting up a router?

Can someone tell me what connection type BY is, either Dynamic IP or static?

I seem to remember my IP address changing at midnight last time I had BY just want confirmation

So its new out the box and should be bloody fine! :D grr

1. Yes
2. Is that PC connected to router, in turn connected to modem. Or just PC - router?
3. Who knows, I'll endevour to find out. As I said, networking is new to me

Right Mr Tolien,

PC connected to Webstar modem = 82.41.64.9

PC connected to router only = 192.168.1.2

next? :p

thanks for the help by the way, took me 20 minutes to remember the ipconfig line :( :p

:p told you the router was fine. BY must authenticate users by MAC address, cloned my MAC address onto the WAN port and works like a dream! :D

maybe I should give myself more credit than I do!

That was the whole point of switching the modem off et al that I mentioned at the start. :p

I didn't say it wasn't, but if you don't describe what's wrong properly...

I had already tried that, copying mac address was an option in the config page.

How can you describe properly something you have no idea whats wrong with until you fix? :p

lol anyways no worries all lights blinkering now fear my home network! :D
