3d cad (preferably free)

as part of my college course (construction) we have to produce some cad drawings and a 3d walkthrough or view of our building design.
i have very basic cad skills but do remember seeing a video on youtube of (from what i remember) was a free app that allowed one to produce 3d designs. does anyone know what this is please?

Being at college you may qualify for the student (full 1yr licence) editions of autodesk's AUTOCAD. it consists of loads of smaller programs for specific tasks - "inventor" for 3d modelling etc. Afaik there is a structural design package on there.
