I am in the market for a 120hz monitor to use with my GTX295.
Would prefer a 1920x1080 res so what is the best option currently available.

Thanks.

Theres also the Alienware panel but its a LOT more expensive for an only very slightly better monitor - deff. not worth the £100+ extra.

Personally I like my samsung 2233rz for gaming as 1680x res and the smaller screensize means much less eye movement in high speed games which seems easier on the eyes. But for desktop use I have another 2048x res panel heh.

Yeah i agree with this , can,t see why its £100 price difference ,as there is very little difference , maybe you pay for the name Dell ?

I got the alienware for only £65 more than the acer. I can say it is well worth it with how sturdy the stand is (and the flashy buttons... and nicer looks :P ).

Screen quality wise, it's fantastic.

most of us i know used voucher codes to get the alienware for only £62 extra (£365 delivered), and to me its well worth the extra to have hight/swivel/tilt adjustments

Having to wear glasses though =/ (Isn't there a way so you don't have to? Heard something like that)

Not seen anything 3D for at least 8 years, i should have seen avatar at cinema :)

Oh right, fair enough!

Well im sure people will be buying them for the 3D vision in the upcoming couple of years :)

Most people don't buy em for the 3D Vision, its the 120Hz, low input latency and fast residual image decay.

I recently purchased the same monitor as you Rroff as well as the 3D vision glasses, do you use it for 3D gaming or not?

I've found you do get a little bit of ghosting from time to time (in 3D mode), and I've heard that the Acer and Alienware one don't suffer quite as bad as the Samsung.

Would like to hear from people with experience of the other two monitors as I've been totally blown away with the whole 3D concept, it's unbelievably awesome! :)

I bought the monitor purely for fps gaming - where it works better than I had hoped.

I have actually ordered the glasses tho - should have been here saturday but order was delayed for some reason and now with the bank holiday probably won't turn up til wednesday earliest :( I'll let you know how I get on with them on this panel tho.

Thanks, you're in for a treat with the glasses, it really is quite phenomenal! It'll be worth the wait that's for sure.

Oh wow. Always thought 3D 'content' if watched without the glasses was un-watchable.
Need to catch up on my 3D knowledge lol. I just remember when i was in America around 8years ago in one of the theme parks there was this theatre and im sure it was 3D. Probably something else as i remember things jumping like really close to my face once the glasses were on.

You do need the glasses to see games and movies in "3D" - the main difference is that Nvidia's 3D tech uses "active" LCD shutter glasses as opposed to the "passive" polarising glasses that you will likely have used at the theme park.

To achieve the 3D effect on these PC monitors, they are designed to run at high refresh rate like 120Hz. That means that a separate 60Hz signal can be sent to each eye- as these images are slightly different (as produced by the software) your brain creates a 3D image which you see.

However, if you are more concerned with smooth gameplay than 3D effect (like many here are) then you can use these 120Hz monitors as conventional non-3D monitors with a very high refresh rate for near-CRT levels of performance in fast paced games. As these are just normal monitors with a high repfresh rate - glasses are not required for this use of the monitor.
