I was looking around the other day and there seem to be a couple of 3D home projectors coming out on the market. Anyone have one? Are they actually any good?

I'm looking to get a projector eventually and was wondering if these sort of things will actually catch on.

(Yes I did go and see Avatar the other day:p)

Best off looking at the nvidia forums, lots of users there with experience. At the moment an Nvidia card and glasses is about the only way to get any 3D at home, and PC games are the main content.

Cheapest I found was 5k for a 42 incher, so still completely and utter priced out of the general consumer market. Another two years and we should be picking them up for a grand a pop.

I would like to know how many 3D movies are actually going to be produced? Will it be possible for old movies to be resampled into 3D? If not, then there will initially be a limited number of 3D movies available. There are only so many times you can watch Avatar...

Loads of movies already available on 3D. All of them older movies as well. Check out your favourite off shore jersey island shop.

Got a acer h5360. Was going to go for a 1080p projector, wanted to player 3d games using nvidia 3d vision so i got this as a filler before the 1080p 3d ones come out. Projector came on friday, just waiting for glasses. Won't get to play too many games in 3d as i have only got a 8800 gts (512) and i''m waiting for nvidia new card.

I have some bad news!
3D Blu Ray Players & PS3 are likely to create issues with 3D output.

If you intend running HD audio from your 3D Blu Ray Player or (upgraded firmware) PS3. The problem is if your AV Amp is not HDMI 1.4 the AV Amp cannot forward the 3D Data to the display. Thing is 1.3 Hdmi device has the bandwidth but from what is being said at CES it seems 1.4 display device is required for full compatibility.

What will be done however is that a 1.4 3D Blu Ray player or PS3 (firmware update PS3 will allow the packet data to sync and work with 1.4 devices)
This needs to connect directly to the 3D capable Hdmi 1.4 display device be it a TV or Projector. Now the important part. Using the "audio return" feature the 1.4 display device will have allows the audio to be looped back to an existing hdmi 1.3 or older AV amp.

The announcement has shocked those in the USA who bought 1.3 Spec Mitsubushi DLP screens as it looks like these now will not be compatible.
I would be very wary at this time regards any current 3D Projectors but for more details please look on AV Forums or AVS as their are boung to be threads on it regards compatibility issues.

I got this information from one of AVForums the CES 2010 videos.

Technically for 3D the only feature 1.4 uses over what 1.3 offers is this "audio return" that I am aware of.
Regards a PC sending 3D via a 1.3 HDMI output it doesnt yet seem clear if with appropiate software it will be okay or can be upgraded like PS3 can.
So with PC its still a grey area.

Therefore we dont yet know if a 1.4 HDMI spec gfx card is needed.
It does seem HDMI and the established manufacturers have agreed that consumer video devices in 1.4 will be needed at both ends of the chain for connecting a 3D device.

In your case it seems the PJ will be 1.3 spec so it is very unlikely it will be upgradeable/compatible.

PS3 1.3 Upgraded to 1.4 requirements (hi james!)
Blu Ray 3D Player 1.4
PC HDMI 1.3? or HDMI 1.4 with new GFX and 3D compatible display.

PC may be different as I dont know how this effects all past 120Hz monitors with 3D as none of those are 1.4 neither yet. People will be up in arms if theyve invested in these screens only to find it might not work with 3D Blu Ray movies and software.

Id say it would be worth reading into announcements made from companies like Cyberlink into what they recommend and if a new HDMI 1.4 gfx card and monitor are required?

If you had a 1.4 av amp would the problem still occur? If it does oh well can still use nvidia 3d vision/non 3d blu ray/tv till suitable equipment are released (lucky my projector on cost £500 or i would have been  )
Knowing all this HDMI 1.4 nonsense I still bought a H5360 (arrived today). I'm not concerned because:

- I'll be driving it from my PC with nVidia 3D Vision.
- PowerDVD etc will support BluRay 3D
- My receiver only does DTS/DD so I have no reason to send sound via HDMI
- HDMI 1.3 still has plenty bandwidth for 120Hz 720p, the projector's native res

*scratches head* Hmm, no, was looking at TV's, which is good as I didn't know the projectors is quite a bit cheaper. Suddenly it becomes a realistic possibility for me to look at.

Ah right, PJs are pretty "cheap" now (well at least compared to what they used to be like), I'm currently looking for work, but once I'm working again, I think I'll have to be investing in a nice 1080 projector. :p
