Basically is there anyway 3D Mark 05 could have wrecked my graphics card?

Had my graphics card on the 1st August, all was perfect.

Ran 3D Mark 05 on 14th August and ever since, I have been experiencing loss of frame rates in Call of Duty 2 Multiplayer for 1 - 3 seconds every now and then.

When I ran 3D Mark 05, sounded like the graphics card was working overtime with the fan racing around, is this normal?

Even though I experience loss of frame rates in Multiplayer, when I play Singleplayer, I never lose any frames.

So does this mean it is something else like my Internet? and not my graphics card? because if it was my graphics card, surely Singleplayer would suffer frame rate loss too?

Please reply! Steve

Hmmm, it couldn't have ruined it unless you don't have sufficient cooling for it. Although if it fried I would have though it'd break further than lossing some frames.

yeah sound like internet connection to me.

FP shooter don't actually drop framerate when the internet slows down do they? I though they just went all horrible and everything doesn't react in time... that's what happens with me any way.

I have the stock cooler on it still.

Nothing else has been affected, except the loss of frame rates for 1 - 3 seconds every now and then.

Think it is my Internet?

Yes it is a little and sometimes there is a black flicker, like another program in the background is doing something, but there is nothing else open, and this has just started to happen like a week ago. All the time before a week, it was fine.

I disabled my Norton Internet Security, and that has reduced the stutters, but they are still happening, and it is upsetting me because I am thinking it is my graphics card which my parents have just bought me :(

Please help, Steve

if somthing is opening/running/trying to in the back ground that could cause it.

press ctr+alt+del look under processes see if there is some program you dont recignise but dont end task if you aint sure cus it may be somthing windows uses then test agian on your games.

I have 56 processes running.

When I am in game, my CPU usage is 30%, could that help towards the stutters?

But I just dont get it...It has been fine for 2 weeks previous, with all the processes running etc.

Steve

so theres no new ones in there u dont notice?.

well what was the last programs or other items you have installed?.

how about doing a system restore back two weeks?.

The only thing I installed before this happened was 3D Mark 05.

I have also un installed this.

Remember though, this doesnt happend on Singleplayer...

Steve

This also has started to happen in COD and COD UO at the same time of the COD2 stutters.

My ping is around 40 and is always at 48 max when these stutters happen.

Could a monthly download cap of 2GB also have something to do with it? me and my brother both play COD2 simultaniously and we also have a laptop on our network, so could have we used our 2GB for August.

Any idea when our cap returns to ZERO for September?

I don't think it's your net, you don't get that type of lag in 3D games.

It could be heat though if you have the side of your case on with only one case fan or even no case fans then it might be overheating.

what motherboard are you using ? if your using an Nforce based board, reinstall your motherboards chipset drivers and see if it helps.

yeah but it happens only in multiplayer?.
ok may not be the ping but what about lost packets etc?.

wireless/wired?.

still can get lost packets.

In order to the replys...

I have 3 case fans...

1) 140mm intake at the front
2) 80mm intake at the side
3) 120mm outake at the back

Graphics card never goes above 55 degrees.

I am not using an nforce based board :(

Yes, it only happens in Multiplayer.

I have a wireless connection, but I have just tried it with my ethernet cable (so it was wired for a minute) and it still happens.

i do know some isp`s limit the performance if you go above your cap.

m8 i aint to good at these things you need to speak to yewen/gibbo.

where are they?.

hmmmmmm somebody has just told me their CPU usage is at 50% when playing COD2 Multiplayer and Singleplayer.

So I can now really say that the only other reason for this is our monthly cap.
