i didnt really want to post this but my computer is that CRAP i got a score of 425 :D how good is that "not"

should i just get a 2nd computer rather than upgrade the one i have now
Current Spec:

K8N Neo 2 Platinum
AMD 64 3500+
1GB Twinmos
128MB 5900XT
180GB SATA

i use the pc for the odd game and video converting and editing

Nothing wrong with the core spec of that, you just need a decent graphics card to go with the decent CPU. Even a 6600GT should get you roughly 10x that score, depends what your budget is :)

what about a 6800??? what should i get with that??? there about £170 right for a decent one?

has to be AGP

wish i had the money now :( dnt get my pay till the 8th of next month :(

how much performance increase would i see from an opty 165?

id need better ram to overclock it wouldnt i?

Im sure there's something wrong there, a 5900XT should be scoring higher than that in 3DMark05 should it not ?

I've just been looking around 5600's seem to score around 500 - 600 while the 5900's are around 1000 - 1200. I think you should be scoring over double what you have. It would still be worth retiring the 5900 though and going for a 6800 GS or similar.

I'd personally try reinstalling the motherboard drivers and the latest Nvidia vga drivers and then try running 05 again. I assume you were running the default tests, and not at a higher resolution or with AA on or something.

What quality setting have you got the card on? If theyre set to the middle then the scores going to be about right.

I wouldnt spend £170 on a 6800GT, you can buy a 7800GT (A VERY GOOD CARD) for £180 plus postage if you shop about which will dramatically increase your benchmarking and gaming performance.

Why not :-

MB-125-AS Asus K8N4-E nForce4 4X (Socket 754) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-125-AS)
£49.95 £49.95
GX-054-PC PowerColor ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-054-PC)
£89.95 £89.95
Subtotal £139.90
Shipping (City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)) £8.25
VAT £25.93
Total £174.08

Moves you to PCI-E for not much more than a AGP card, good performance increase, I'd say your CPU still has life left in it for a while yet so would be a nice stop gap before going for a 939 mobo/cpu later on.

ive only got the free edition i cant chage those..
im running it at 1024 x 768
no aa
filtering - optimal

At the moment you have an AGP board, so the best you can buy is a 6800Ultra or X850XT PE or something. BigDom's idea is quite good, if that card overclocks to XT PE speeds.

I have the MSI Neo 2 Platinum, SD 3700+, 2GB Ballistix, 6800 Ultra and I get 6000~ or so in 3DMarks05. So I'm guessing it's just the GFX card you need to replace and not the whole thing.

Of course it all depends on what games you play.

my chip is 939...
Ahh apologise, in that case even better drop something like the asus MVP Crossfire board in, come out a little more ( almost £200 ) though.

I did a quick search and first board matching came out 754.

just re-done my 3d mark and i got 468 lol i did a search on the website and someone else with a similar setup got 270 at a heigher res..

should i spend the 300-400 i get paid or should i wait and save up some more money and get a better upgrade? or should i upgrade something next month and something the month after?

Hi

If you want to stick with AGP then go for the 6800GS as it's a decent price (get the BFG one). If you want a bigger boost look at the 7800GS - bare in mind that this only comes into its own when overclocked and the pre-overclocked cards get expensive

In all honesty I'd buy a 939 PCI-E board and a PCI-E graphics card. In this case I'd look at the 7800GT or X1800XL. The 7800GT is a little quicker out of the two at stock but the X1800XL is a great overclocker. They're both very good cards and the 7800GT can be had for as little as £180 if you look around. Add £50 for a PCI-E motherboard and this is only £10 more than a 7800GS and it's a fair bit quicker

okay so it looks like im upgrading my board and card... 7800GT and a decent board??? can a decent board be had for £50??? or should i spend more???

You can get a decent board for £50. Although this might be a good bet for £10 more:

Gigabyte K8N SLi nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-040-GI) £62.22 in This Week Only.
