System below;

BFG 8800GT 512MB PCI-E
AMD X2 5000 Black Edition @ 2.6Ghz
2GB GeiL 800Mhz RAM
600W OCZ StealthXStream PSU
160GB HDD
XP

3D Mark Score : 8900 ish

That about right or does it seem a little high / low ?

Seems about right,

Get clocking and your prob get closer to 10k.

I doubt your get over 10k with a X2.

LMAO. Off course he will ;). My score below is at 2.8Ghz with my 2900Pro at speed in sig. This is on a 8-10 month old install of XP (which I've still YET to get a fresh install on the go to break 10k).

Overclock that CPU and then some on the 8800GT mdk88 and I reckon you will fly past 10K easily. Even at 2.8Ghz I am CPU limited in 3Dmark06 because of the low resolution of 1280x1024 so even at 3.2Ghz your CPU could be holding you back but then it's only a benchmark ;). I don't know where the CPU limitation ends sadly as my CPU won't give out any longer (2.95Ghz was doable but only for benching). You will hopefully be hitting 3Ghz+.

What size of screen do you have mdk88?. If it's 1400x900 and above then the GT will start to do more of the work rather than the CPU, this is better for your gaming but not imperative. At 1280x1024 you are CPU limited but it's fine for benchmarking as we're all trying to get comparable scores. The reason why we don't do a general benchmark at today's common resolution of 1400x900/1680x1050 is bewildering at times until you realise that the majority use lower resolutions.

I'm getting 8200ish on 3dmark 06 with:

A64 4200+ (2.2 ghz)
A8ne mb
2 gig ocz platinum ram
bfg 8800gt oc

all at stock speeds. I'm wondering if I should try overclocking the cpu because I think thats what the bottleneck is. When I oc'd my cpu with a 7800 gs agp it didn't make any change to my scores and it was ok for a week then it started to reboot for no reason (not even when stressing) but that might of been my old mobo (a8v) or some of my settings? I've just built this one using my old x24200 and mem from the old one and its my first complete build so i'm a bit wary of overclocking it but probably will sometime or other.

What resolution is your screen capable off?. 1280x1024 will see you being CPU bound but 1440x900 plus will see the graphics card take control. Only then will you start to see the true potential of the card.

Even at 2.8Ghz like I stated above. I was CPU bound on 3dmark06 @ 1280x1024. As my gaming is high resolution I can then let the graphics card take control more and find a good balance dependant on the game I play.

My max resolution is 1280x1024 as I'm still using a crt. I suppose 3dmark 06 scores don't matter too much as long as crysis etc runs good at least at 1024x768 pref 1280x1024 (I should be getting crysis tomorrow) I'll be happy.

As long as your gaming is fine then you're sorted. If games are affected then you could always get a bigger screen.

If you'd like to stay CRT but would like bigger resolutions then there's always the Viewsonic range but would have to be second hand. I'm using a Viewsonic P225 21" http://www.viewsonic.com/support/desktopdisplays/crtmonitors/proseries/p225/. I got it off my m8 for £85 and it's MUCH better than my old 22" LCD widescreen 1680x1050 monitor.

13035 with 6000+ here. :D

See, I did say that it would break the 10k easily :D. Nice score btw ;).

I was hopeing to break 10k with the 3870, but it wasnt to be ;)
still twice the performance of my previous 1950pro so its not all bad. its that damed cpu score that needs a boost now. hopefully updated drivers will get more out of the card as they mature though.

Well your max clock is about the same is my max clock from reports so far (except the BIOS that can maybe see 900Mhz core ). What about looking out for a great clocking 939CPU and fitting that?. Shouldn't cost too much or I wouldn't have suggested it. Also is your motherboard holding back your CPU overclock?.

here we go, some amd/single card results from my database.... :)

I guess the board is holding the cpu back in terms of overclockability. I might try volt modding, but would rarther seek a good clocking 939 cpu. currently running at 10x260 with max 1.35v. i rekon with a little more juice it could push more. id certainly like to push the gfx core more as it seems stable (but not cool at 85 deg at load ) but the gfx mem doesnt like overclocking at all and will often cause vp recover errors/freezing although theres no artifacts at all (upto 2500)

If I were you then I'd get a new motherboard. Great for nearly everyone but overclockers :(.

You get the same speed as me at stock volts 2.6Ghz. Your GPU heat is a bit worrying though. I rarely break 77'C with the fan on auto at my own set dynamic fan speeds.

Do you get voltage play with ATI Tool?.

but you needed 2 of the buggers to get that score. what's your score with one card? :D

I think it only made about 800points difference tbh.

I hit 93'C with mine yestrerday. :S
