3d monitor and 2d films ?

Hi All...I,m alittle bit confused ( or just thick lol ) i have a 3d monitor and have been playing 3d blu ray films on it which are awesome ! but i have heard that you can play normal 2d dvds ,blu rays in 3d and they will become 3d ..what i,m confused about is how can this be true ? or am i missing something ? I thought films had to be made or filmed in 3d to be real 3d . Any views please thanks

Yea, it can be done in software - where the software take visual queues on depth and effectively guesses on the depth of different elements to present a 3D image on the screen.

It's kind of like how film companies take a film that was shot only in 2D (like clash of the titans and harry potter 7) and then convert it to 3D using computers. Though obviously this kind of process needs to be done in real-time so the effect isn't as convincing. Many Tv companies like LG and Panasonic offer this kind of technology in their 3D TVs and for PC users the latest versions of software like PowerDVD and WinDVD offer 2D to 3D conversion.

Its possible but it gets easily confused and you can have things appearing in 3d infront of things that theyre behind visually.
